On Oct. 19-20, a team of three University of Tennessee College of Law students took part in the Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon sponsored by St. John’s University’s Hugh L. Carey Center for Dispute Resolution and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
As part of the competition, more than 20 law student teams from around the country met to test their advocacy skills in the negotiation, mediation and arbitration of a securities dispute. Members of FINRA’s roster of experienced neutrals served as mediators, arbitrators and judges.
This was the first year that UT Law participated in the triathlon. UT Law’s team, comprised of team members Brooke Baird, Cara Rains and Ryan Franklin, took the top honor in the negotiation component of the competition. The team was coached by Professor Becky Jacobs.
